Managing Roles

A role enables access to specific objects in the system (i.e. resources and system entities) and designates the level of privileges given (i.e. Read, Write, or Notify).
When creating a role you relate one specific Tag to the role (the Tag is assigned to each relevant object). New Tags can be created either on the Settings > Tags screen or during the creation of a Role. The role configuration determines the type of interaction (read, write, notify) that is enabled for each of the object types. The following is a description of the objects included in each object type:
- Resources – all Zixi-enabled resources managed in ZEN Master. This includes ZECs, Zixi Broadcaster clusters as well as other devices that have been configured in ZEN Master through Remote Access connections (e.g. encoders, IRDs etc.). This also includes access to licenses, remote access, incidents, live events and maps.
- Sources – input streams that are managed in ZEN Master, MediaConnect Sources, and PID mapping profiles.
- Channels - includes adaptive channels, which are all channels in ZEN Master that involve processing of Sources as well as their associated Targets. This includes both Adaptive and Transcoded Channels as well as HTTP and S3 Bucket Targets. It also includes Pass-Through Channels, which includes all Channels that send sources to Targets without additional processing as well as their associated Targets. This includes Pass-Through Channels as well as Push, Pull and RTMP Targets. In addition, it includes Failover channels, MediaConnect Flows, and MediaLive Channels.
- Targets - Targets that are managed in ZEN Master.
- Reports – Usage Reports, Stats Summary Reports and Uptime/Outage Reports.
As part of the management and configuration process, roles are added to the system as described below. As part of the role configuration, you assign users and user groups to the role.
