Configuring the Consumption Segment for Multicast Streaming

In the consumption segment the endpoints/receivers connect to the Zixi Broadcaster to pull the input stream. The configuration of the connection to the Zixi Broadcaster is exactly the same as a regular stream. The only difference is that since the stream has been configured as “Transmit as multicast”, the Zixi Broadcaster will redirect the request to a multicast address. If the multicast connection does not succeed and the input stream has NOT been marked as “multicast only”, the entire transmission of the stream will fall back to Unicast. In any case during multicast transmission If there are errors in the transmission, the error correction will be transmitted in UDP unicast directly to the specific device that suffered the error.
This section provides instructions on how to configure a Zixi Receiver (which is located in the contribution/distribution segment) to pull the Zixi-protected multicast stream that has been configured in the previous section. In addition, this section also provides instructions on how to configure a VLC player, which includes the Zixi Plugin, to pull the Zixi-protected multicast stream that has been configured in the previous section.
