You can configure the Zixi Plug-in settings, such as caching, latency, and more.

To access Zixi Plug-in preferences:

  1. In VLC's Main Menu, click the Tools menu and select Preferences.
  2. At the bottom left of the Preferences window, under Show Settings select All
The Advanced Preference window opens displaying a tree with all the preferences.

  3. Select the Only show current checkbox.
  4. Click Input / Codecs and then click Access Modules.
  5. Click Zixi.
The Zixi VLC plug-in preferences appear in the right pane.

  6. Configure the following settings as required:

    SettingDescription

    Decryption Key

For playback of encrypted streams, enter the key provided by your administrator (see Playing an Encrypted Zixi Stream)
Zixi Log ModeThis integer value sets the log entry level mode for Zixi stream messages. Available Options: Disabled (-1) Debug (0 or 1) Info (2) Warning (3) Error (4) Fatal (5). Note: Set only as disable unless debugging. Additional disk writes can effect memory and performance
Max Latency [ms]The maximum latency in milliseconds of the Zixi stream over your local connection between the source Zixi Broadcaster and the VLC player.  Increasing latency will add additional buffer space to compensate for network burst loss.
Player Cache [ms]The length, in milliseconds, of the VLC player cache. Using skip controls may cause the player to re-buffer
    Automatically Detect Open Ports

The VLC Plugin will auto-detect default or common open ports at the Zixi Broadcaster

Non-default source ports can be specified explicitly in the playback URL (supplied by your administrator).

Drop Frames With Missing DataIn the case of data loss, when this option is turned on, any partial frames are removed by the Zixi Plug-In prior to forwarding to the player. This option can improve VLC stability.
Fixed Latency‘On’ is recommended. Uses Max Latency specified when off, dynamically increases to Max Latency when on
Allow Latency to Decrease‘Off’ is recommended. Can dynamically lower latency when ‘On’ but may re-buffer if an increase is needed
FEC Overhead [%] and FEC Blocksize [ms]Do *not* alter. FEC settings are set automatically. These entries will be removed in future versions.
  7. Once you have updated the preferences, click Save and close the VLC player. Restart VLC for your changes to take effect.
