Recording a Stream Locally

VLC is able to record a Zixi stream locally to disk. This is especially useful in the event that a copy of the pulled stream is required for further analysis by technical support.  A local recording can be captured and the resulting file can be uploaded to Zixi Support.

Recording a Stream

To record a stream:

  1. Open VLC Player

  2. On the Main Menu, click Media
    Sub-menu options are displayed. 

  3. Click Open Network Stream
  4. Enter network URL - Zixi://<IP_Address_OR_FQDN_Of Zixi_Broadcaster>:<Output Port>/<channel name>
  5. At the bottom, click the down arrow next to the Play button and select Convert
    The Convert window opens.

  6. Select the Dump Raw Input checkbox.
  7. Click Browse and select the destination folder.   
  8. Enter a relevant filename with a ‘.ts’ extension.

  9. Click Start

Stopping the Recording

To stop the recording:

  • Click the stop playback button in the VLC play control bar

Validating the Recording

To ensure the recording was successful:

  1. Open VLC Player

  2. On the Main Menu, click Media
    Sub-menu options are displayed. 

  3. Click Open File.
  4. Set the file filter in the bottom right to “All Files (*)”.

  5. Browse to select your recorded file.

  6. Click Open.
    Your recording will playback in VLC.
