VLC is able to record a Zixi stream locally to disk. This is especially useful in the event that a copy of the pulled stream is required for further analysis by technical support. A local recording can be captured and the resulting file can be uploaded to Zixi Support.
Recording a Stream
To record a stream:
Open VLC Player
On the Main Menu, click Media.
Sub-menu options are displayed.
- Click Open Network Stream.
- Enter network URL - Zixi://<IP_Address_OR_FQDN_Of Zixi_Broadcaster>:<Output Port>/<channel name>
At the bottom, click the down arrow next to the Play button and select Convert.
The Convert window opens.
- Select the Dump Raw Input checkbox.
- Click Browse and select the destination folder.
Enter a relevant filename with a ‘.ts’ extension.
- Click Start.
Stopping the Recording
To stop the recording:
- Click the stop playback button in the VLC play control bar
Validating the Recording
To ensure the recording was successful:
Open VLC Player
On the Main Menu, click Media.
Sub-menu options are displayed.
- Click Open File.
Set the file filter in the bottom right to “All Files (*)”.
Browse to select your recorded file.
- Click Open.
Your recording will playback in VLC.
