This topology includes source and target redundancy with additional cross-over redundancy capabilities. The topology includes two simultaneous streams delivered in parallel from two separate source nodes to a corresponding pair of redundant targets. If the latency of the outputs is identical, the streams will be frame synced, providing the video is synced on entry. In addition, in the unlikely event that a second loss occurs at the opposing connected end-point, the automated cross-over mechanism uses the resources of the opposite path, providing a stream with minimal disruption.

The configuration is performed on the target Zixi Receivers. There you will configure a Pull input from the primary broadcaster, which includes a backup host (secondary Zixi Broadcaster). The stream has to be defined in the primary and secondary broadcasters as inputs with the same stream ID. In runtime, the Zixi Receiver will connect to the primary Zixi Broadcaster and the output is created automatically "on the fly". If the primary source becomes unavailable the target will attempt to pull the same stream with the same stream ID from the secondary source (which has been defined as the Backup host).

Source Configuration

To configure the primary source node (e.g. Zixi Receiver):

  1. On the Inputs page of the primary Zixi Receiver, click    on the upper- right end corner of the screen.
  2. In the Output Name field, type a new name for the output.
  3. In the Input Stream field, select the relevant input stream.
  4. Select the Push option.
  5. In the Output Parameters section, under Links, enter the details of the target, including:
The target Host - Specify the destination Broadcaster name or IP address to which you are pushing the stream.
The Port number - Specify the ports to listen on for Push streams. Default - 2088
    Target IP -
  6. Set the desired Max Latency in milliseconds.
  7. Click OK to create the primary output,

To configure the secondary source node (e.g. Zixi Feeder):

  1. On the Outputs page of secondary Zixi Feeder, click    on the upper- right end corner of the screen..
  2. In the Output Name field, type the same name used for the primary output.
  3. In the Output Parameters section, under Links, enter the same details of the primary target, including:
The target Host - Specify the destination Broadcaster name or IP address to which you are pushing the stream (secondary target).
The Port number - Specify the ports to listen on for Push streams. Default - 2088
    Target IP -
  4. Set the desired Max Latency in milliseconds
  5. Click OK.

Target Configuration

To configure the target node (e.g. Zixi Broadcaster/Receiver):

  1. Click the Inputs tab at the top of the Zixi Broadcaster administrative screen
  2. Click New Input on the upper right hand side of the screen.
  3. Select the Push option.
  4. Create an input at the primary target, ensuring the “Stream ID” matches that of the primary and secondary sources output.
  5. Configure additional parameters as required.
  6. Click OK.

Cost Considerations

This topology duplicates the source Zixi hardware and software components. It does not require doubling the uplink bandwidth as the backup connection stream is only active in the event that the primary fails.

Latency Considerations

Primary Connection loss         =

Retry cycle                              =

Connection to secondary        =
