Dual PULL Transmission from Redundant Sources (Full Cross-Over)
- israel drori (Unlicensed)
- Alon Men
This topology includes source and target redundancy with additional cross-over redundancy capabilities. The topology includes two simultaneous streams delivered in parallel from two separate source nodes to a corresponding pair of redundant targets. If the latency of the outputs is identical, the streams will be frame synced, providing the video is synced on entry. In addition, in the unlikely event that a second loss occurs at the opposing connected end-point, the automated cross-over mechanism uses the resources of the opposite path, providing a stream with minimal disruption.
The configuration is performed on the target Zixi Receivers. There you will configure a Pull input from the primary broadcaster, which includes a backup host (secondary Zixi Broadcaster). The stream has to be defined in the primary and secondary broadcasters as inputs with the same stream ID. In runtime, the Zixi Receiver will connect to the primary Zixi Broadcaster and the output is created automatically "on the fly". If the primary source becomes unavailable the target will attempt to pull the same stream with the same stream ID from the secondary source (which has been defined as the Backup host).
A single Input is created at the source Zixi Broadcasters, which includes a Max Outputs limitation of 1 output. The same Pull input is created in both the Main Zixi Receiver and Backup Zixi Receiver. In runtime, the Zixi Receiver will connect to the Zixi Broadcaster and the output is created automatically "on the fly". If the Main Zixi Receiver becomes unavailable, the Zixi Broadcaster will grant the Backup Receiver with the permission to pull the stream. However, when the main Zixi Receiver becomes available again, Zixi Broadcaster will not grant a permission to pull the stream again (due to the max outputs limitation) until the Backup Zixi Receiver stops pulling the stream.
Source Configuration
To configure the primary source node (e.g. Zixi Broadcaster):
- On the Inputs page of the primary Zixi Broadcaster, click New Input on the upper right-end corner of the screen.
- In the Stream ID field, type a new name for the input stream.
- In the Max Outputs field, type 1.
- Select the a relevant connection type option.
- Specify the stream parameters according to the relevant connection type selected.
- Click OK to create the primary input.
To configure the secondary source node (e.g. Zixi Broadcaster):
- Repeat the steps above on the secondary Zixi Broadcaster.
Target Configuration
To configure the primary target node (e.g. primary Zixi Receiver):
- Click the Inputs tab at the top of the primary Zixi Receiver administrative screen
- Click New Input on the upper right hand side of the screen.
- In the Input Name field, type a new name for the input.
- Select the Pull option.
- In the Host field, enter the host name or IP of the primary source.
- In the Backup Host field, enter the host name or IP of the secondary source.
- In the Port field, enter the connection port of the host (Zixi Receiver). Default: 2077.
- In the Stream field, enter the stream ID used in the primary and secondary source inputs. The same stream ID should be used in the Inputs configured on the Primary and Secondary sources (Zixi Broadcasters). The output is created "on the fly" on the Zixi Broadcaster, so there is no need to configure it.
- Configure additional parameters as required.
- Click OK.
To configure the secondary target node (e.g. secondary Zixi Receiver):
- Click the Inputs tab at the top of the secondary Zixi Receiver administrative screen
- Click New Input on the upper right hand side of the screen.
- In the Input Name field, type a new name for the input.
- Select the Pull option.
- In the Host field, enter the host name or IP of the secondary source.
- In the Backup Host field, enter the host name or IP of the primary source.
- Click OK.
Cost Considerations
This topology duplicates the hardware and software components of both the source and the target. The configuration also requires using double the up-link bandwidth. Allocation of twice the expected maximum bit-rate with head room is advised.
Latency Considerations
