ZEN Master supports two different methods for integrating MediaConnect Flows.

  • Method 1 - Partial Integration:Connecting MediaConnect Flows to ZEN Master: This method uses an existing independent MediaConnect Flow as a Source (as described in Adding a MediaConnect Source – Connecting an Existing Flow) or Target (as described in Adding AWS MediaConnect Targets) in ZEN Master. The resultant Source or Target functions as a standard ZEN Master entity.

  • Method 2 –

    Native Flow Management:

    Creating ZEN Master Managed Flows: This method involves creating

    and managing a completely new MediaConnect Flow in ZEN Master

    a MediaConnect Flow that is fully managed within ZEN Master. This involves creating specialized MediaConnect Sources as well as specialized MediaConnect Flow Channels in ZEN Master. This method enables you to manage the Flow completely from within ZEN Master, including interchanging between Sources and Flow Channels. There are two ways of creating these Managed Flows:

    • Create a new MediaConnect Flow - create a completely new MediaConnect Flow from the ZEN Master console (i.e. without accessing the MediaConnect console or using their APIs

    ) and connecting it to Sources and Targets defined in ZEN Master.
For Native Flow Management, you create the MediaConnect Flow as a Channel in ZEN Master. This takes the place of creating the Flow using the MediaConnect Console or APIs.

    • ). This involves creating a specialized MediaConnect Source in ZEN master (as described in Creating a New Media Connect Flow Channel) and then creating a specialized MediaConnect Flow Channel (as described in Adding MediaConnect Flow Channels). This enables you to work exclusively within the ZEN Master UI.

    • Import an Existing MediaConnect Flow to Manage in ZEN Master - This method involves inporting an existing Flow from MediaConnect into ZEN Master (as described in Importing a MediaConnect Flow Channel). The input from your MediaConnect Flow is automatically created as a specialized MediaConnect Source in ZEN Master and the outputs are created as Targets in ZEN Master. In addition, the Flow itself is created as a specialized MediaConnect Flow Channel. All elements can be monitored and managed in ZEN Master.

Once you have created or imported a ZEN Master Managed Flow (method 2), you should manage that Flow entirely through ZEN Master and not through the MediaConnect console.


MediaConnect Flows that are created as Channels in ZEN Master are independent of the Sources that are assigned to them so that you can swap Sources between Channels at any time.

MediaConnect Sources created using the Native Flow Management method Method 2 must be assigned to a special type of Channel, a MediaConnect Flow Channel. Media Connect MediaConnect Sources created using the Partial Integration method Method 1 can be assigned to standard ZEN Master Channels.

The following section describes sections describe the procedure for creating a MediaConnect Flow as a Channel in ZEN Master. In addition, an explanation of each of the configuration parameters is given in the table below.

To add a MediaConnect Flow Channel:

  • In the main navigation, click Channels.
  • Click +Add.
    The Create New Channel selection menu is displayed.

  • Click on AWS MediaConnect Flow.
    The Create MediaConnect Flow window is displayed.

  • In the Info section, in the Name field, enter a logical name for the Channel.

  • In the Access Tags field, select one or more of the predefined Access Tags from the drop-down list.
    Access Tags are used for access control. By selecting an Access Tag, you are relating this Channel to that Access Tag. Access Tags are associated with certain roles (through the Users & Roles screen), and roles, in turn, are associated with users and user groups. If you would like to create a new Access Tag see Creating an Access Tag.

    • In the Configuration section, in the AWS Account field, select from the drop-down list the AWS MediaConnect account that you would like to use for this Flow.

    If the Source does not exist in the cluster, then the cluster will pull the Source automatically.

  • In the Region  field, select from the drop-down list the AWS region that you would like to use for this Flow.

  • In the Availability Zone field, select from the drop-down list the Availability Zone that you would like to use for this Flow.

    • In the Source field, select from the drop-down list the AWS MediaConnect type Source that you would like to assign to this Channel.

    Specifying a Source is optional. You can create a Channel without assigning a Source, although it won’t be activated until you assign a Source at a later time. You can also switch to a different Source at a later time. To learn about creating a MediaConnect Source, see Adding a MediaConnect Source – Native Flow Management.

    Click Save.

    A MediaConnect Flow Channel can be assigned to a standard Target of the following types in ZEN Master: Push, Pull, RIST, RTP/RTP-FEC

    ZEN Master Managed Flows by creating a new Flow in ZEN Master or importing an existing Flow. For Method 1, you just create a MediaConnect Source in ZEN Master as described in Adding a MediaConnect Source – Connecting an Existing Flow.
