Zixi Appliance User Guide

The Zixi Server Appliance is a pre-installed hardware device that runs one of the Zixi software products (the Zixi Broadcaster, the Zixi Feeder, or the Zixi Receiver). The 1RU rack mountable appliance is equipped with Linux OS and 4x Gigabit Ethernet, 1000BASE-T, RJ45 cards and supports up to 800Mpbs per interface. The Zixi Server Appliance is an intelligent and versatile video distribution platform that resides on premise at a customer’s site.

The Zixi Server Appliance provides a platform for running the following Zixi products:

  • Broadcaster – The Zixi Broadcaster is the management and processing hub in the Zixi Video Network. Zixi Broadcaster takes video streams from Zixi Feeder, and can process the stream, enabling transcoding, transmuxing, recording, and distribution in multiple bit rates and protocols to any device anywhere. Combined with Zixi Broadcaster platform, Zixi Server Appliance delivers thousands of streams in a fully redundant and scalable manner.
  • Feeder – The Zixi Feeder enables non-Zixi embedded devices to initiate a live stream. Zixi Feeder encapsulates the stream in the Zixi transport protocol and delivers point to point or point to multi-point over standard IP connections.
  • Receiver – The Zixi Receiver accepts input from Zixi Feeder or Broadcaster via standard IP networks, including the public Internet, and outputs professional-quality video to a broad range of Integrated Receiver- Decoders (IRDs), and to a file system.
