Zixi can be deployed to pull a stream to redundant targets. This topology shows a stream that is pulled from a single source node to a corresponding pair of redundant targets in a hot redundancy configuration. The stream is pulled in parallel by the two redundant targets, creating two redundant paths to the destination. Two distinctly named outputs are created at the source Zixi Broadcaster. Each output is configured to stream to one of the redundant Zixi Receivers. If the latency of the outputs is identical, the streams will be frame synced, provided that the video is synced on entry.
A single Input is created at the source Zixi Broadcaster. This input may include Unlimited Max Outputs, which will enable multiple simultaneous Pull connections. If you want to limit the number of Pull connections, you can enter the desired number of Max Outputs (e.g. enter '2', if you have two Zixi Receivers pulling). In runtime, the two Zixi Receivers will connect to the Zixi Broadcaster and the two outputs is created automatically "on the fly". Additional connections will be denied. Alternatively, you can manually configure the two Pull outputs in the Zixi Broadcaster.
Source Configuration
To configure the source node (e.g. Zixi Broadcaster):
On the Outputs page of the primary Zixi Broadcaster, click New Output on the upper- right end corner of the screen.
In the Output Name field, type a new name for the output.
In the Input Stream field, select the relevant input stream.
Select the Pull option.
In the Output Parameters section, under Links, enter the details of one of the target Zixi Receivers, including: The target Host - Specify the destination Receiver name or IP address. The Port number - Specify the ports to listen on. Default - 2088
Set the desired Max Latency in milliseconds.
Click OK to create the first output.
Repeat steps 1-4 to create a second pull output.
In the Output Parameters section, under Links, enter the details of the second target Zixi Receiver, including: The target Host - Specify the destination Receiver name or IP address. The Port number - Specify the ports to listen on. Default - 2088
Set the desired Max Latency in milliseconds.
Click OK to create the second output.
Target Configuration
To configure the primary target node (e.g. Zixi Receiver):
Click the Inputs tab at the top of the Zixi Receiver administrative screen
Click New Input on the upper right hand side of the screen.
Select the Pull option.
In the Host field, enter the name of the source host Zixi Broadcaster.
In the Port field, enter the port number as configured in the Zixi Broadcaster.
In the Stream field, enter the stream ID of the first stream as configured in the Zixi Broadcaster.
Configure additional parameters as required.
Click OK.
To configure the secondary target node (e.g.
In the Stream field, enter the stream ID of the second stream as configured in the Zixi Broadcaster.
Configure additional parameters as required.
Click OK.
Cost Considerations
This topology duplicates the target Zixi hardware and software components. The configuration also requires using double the up-link bandwidth. Allocation of twice the expected maximum bit-rate with head room is advised.
