Zixi can be deployed to pull parallel redundant sources to two targets. This topology includes two simultaneous streams pulled in parallel from two separate source nodes to a corresponding pair of redundant targets. The streams are pulled in parallel by the two redundant targets, creating two redundant paths to the destination. Two distinctly named outputs . If a component in one of the paths fails, the alternative path can be used by the IRD.
Two distinctly named inputs are created at the source Zixi Broadcasters. Each output is Zixi Receiver will be configured to Pull the stream to one from each of the redundant Zixi ReceiversBroadcasters. If If the latency of the Inputs is identical, the streams will be frame synced providing they video is synced at the source.
Source Configuration
Configuring in advance the Pull output in the primary and secondary Broadcasters is not mandatory.
To configure the primary first source node (e.g. Primary Zixi Broadcaster):
- On the Outputsthe Inputs page of the primary Zixi Broadcaster, click New OutputInput on the upper-right end corner of the screen.
- In the Output NameStream ID field, type a new name for the outputinput stream.
- In the Input Stream field, select the relevant input stream.
- Select the PullSelect the a relevant connection type option.
- In the Output Parameters section, enter the details of the target, including:
The target Host - Specify the destination Zixi Receiver name or IP address.
The Port number - Specify the ports to listen on. Default - 2088 Set the desired Max Latency in milliseconds.the Max Inputs field, do one of the following:- Leave it as Unlimited.
- Specify the maximal number of connections (e.g. type "1" to enable a single Pull connection).
- Specify the stream parameters according to the relevant connection type selected.
- Click OK to create the primary outputinput.
To configure the secondary second source node (e.g. Secondary Zixi Broadcaster):
- On the OutputsInputs page of secondary the primary Zixi Broadcaster, click New Output on click New Input on the upper-right end corner of the screen..
- In the Output NameStream ID field, type a new name for the outputinput stream.
- Select the a relevant connection type option.
- In the Output Parameters section enter the details of the secondary target, including:
The target Host - Specify the destination Zixi Receiver name or IP address.
The Port number - Specify the ports to listen on. Default - 2088 - Set the desired Max Latency in milliseconds
- Click OKthe Max Inputs field, do one of the following:
- Leave it as Unlimited.
- Specify the maximal number of connections (e.g. type "1" to enable a single Pull connection).
- Specify the stream parameters according to the relevant connection type selected.
- Click OK to create the primary input.
Target Configuration
To configure the primary target node (e.g. Zixi Receiver):
- Click the Inputs tab at the top of the Zixi Receiver administrative screen
- Click New Input on the upper right hand side of the screen.
- Select the Pull option.
- In the Host field, enter the name of the primary source host Zixi Broadcaster.
- In the Port field, enter the port number as configured in the primary Zixi Broadcaster.
- In the Stream field, enter the stream ID as configured in the primary Zixi Broadcaster.
- Configure additional parameters as required.
- Click OK.
To configure the secondary target node (e.g. Zixi Receiver):
- Click the Inputs tab at the top of the Zixi Receiver administrative screen
- Click New Input on the upper right hand side of the screen.
- Select the Pull option.
- In the Host field, enter the name of the secondary source host Zixi Broadcaster.
- In the Port field, enter the port number as configured in the secondary Zixi Broadcaster.
- In the Stream field, enter the stream ID as configured in the secondary Zixi Broadcaster.
- Configure additional parameters as required.
- Click OK.
Cost Considerations
This topology duplicates the source Zixi hardware and software components . It does not require doubling the uplink bandwidth as the backup connection stream is only active in the event that the primary fails.
Latency Considerations
Primary Connection loss =
Retry cycle =
Connection to secondary =
Total recovery Time = of both the source and the target. The configuration also requires using double the up-link bandwidth. Allocation of twice the expected maximum bit-rate with head room is advised.
Latency Considerations
