Zixi can be deployed to pull a stream to redundant targets. This topology shows a stream that is pulled from a single source node to a corresponding pair of redundant targets in a warm redundancy configuration. The stream is not pulled in parallel, only when the Main Zixi Receiver fails, the Backup Zixi Receiver will be able to pull the stream from the Zixi Broadcaster.
A single Input is created at the source Zixi Broadcaster, which includes a Max Outputs limitation of 1 output. The same Pull input is created in both the Main Zixi Receiver and Backup Zixi Receiver. In runtime, the Zixi Receiver will connect to the Zixi Broadcaster and the output is created automatically "on the fly". If the Main Zixi Receiver becomes unavailable, the Zixi Broadcaster will grant the Backup Receiver with the permission to pull the stream. However, when the main Zixi Receiver becomes available again, Zixi Broadcaster will not grant a permission to pull the stream again (due to the max outputs limitation) until the Backup Zixi Receiver stops pulling the stream.
Source Configuration
To configure the source node (e.g. Zixi Broadcaster):
- On the Inputs page of the primary Zixi Broadcaster, click New Input on the upper- right end corner of the screen.
- In the Output NameStream ID field, type a new name for the outputinput stream.
- In the Input Stream field, select the relevant input stream.
- Select the PushSelect the a relevant connection type option.
- In the Output Parameters section, under Links, enter the details of the target, including:
The target Host - Specify the destination Broadcaster name or IP address to which you are pushing the stream.
The Port number - Specify the ports to listen on for Push streams. Default - 2088
Target IP - Set the desired Max Latency in milliseconds.the Max Inputs field, type "1". - Specify the stream parameters according to the relevant connection type selected.
- Click OK to create the primary output, input.
Target Configuration
A Pull input should be configured in the primary and backup target nodes.
To configure the primary target node (e.g. Zixi Broadcaster/ Receiver):
- Click the Inputs tab at the top of the Zixi Broadcaster Receiver administrative screen.
- Click New Input on the upper right hand side of the screen.
- In the Input Name field, type a new name for the input.
- Select the Push option.Create an input at the primary target, ensuring the “Stream ID” matches that of the primary and secondary sources output.Pull option.
- In the Host field, enter the host name or IP of the Primary Broadcaster source.
- In the Port field, enter the connection port of the source host (primary Zixi Broadcaster). Default: 2077.
- In the Stream field, enter the stream ID used in the Primary Broadcaster source input.
- Configure additional parameters as required.
- Click OK.
To configure the secondary target node (e.g. Zixi Receiver):
- Repeat the same configuration steps as the ones in the primary target node. Make sure you use the same input name used in the primary target node.
Cost Considerations
This topology duplicates the source Zixi hardware and software components. It does not require doubling the uplink bandwidth as the backup connection stream is only active in the event that the primary fails.
Latency Considerations
Primary Connection loss =
Retry cycle =
Connection to secondary =
Total recovery Time = For detailed recovery time details, please contact your Zixi representative.
