The Zixi Server Appliance can be either rack mounted, or simply laid on top of a flat surface (such as a desktop).

Mounting the Zixi Appliance in a Rack

Info
titleNote

Make sure that the rack is electrically grounded.
Make sure that the cooling fan air intake (located in the back panel) or the air ventilation holes (on the top panel), are not obstructed.

To mount the Server Appliance in a standard (19-inch) rack:

  1. Insert the server appliance box into an available 1U slot in the rack.
  2. Secure the unit to the rack by fastening the rack-mount ears to the rack frame, using the appropriate screws for rack mounting (not supplied).
  3. Plug in the AC power supply cable (supplied) to the power supply port in the rear panel, then plug the cable to the AC power supply (mains).

Installing the Zixi Appliance on a Desktop

Info
titleNote

Make sure that the tabletop is flat and dry.
Make sure that the cooling fan air intake (located in the back panel) or the air ventilation holes (on the top panel), are not obstructed.

To install the Zixi Appliance on a desktop:

  1. Place the appliance box on a dry, flat, leveled surface (such as a desktop).
  2. If the appliance is placed within a stack of other electrical appliance, make sure there is ample space behind the cooling fan (located in the back panel), to allow proper ventilation and cooling.
  3. Plug in the AC power supply cable (supplied) to the power supply port in the rear panel, then plug the cable to the AC power supply (mains)

  3. In the middle of the back panel, plug in the Network I/O Ethernet cables to their corresponding RJ-45 ports, as required according to your network topology (see configuration of the quad cluster in figure below)

The four Gigabit Ethernet (1000Base-T) network management Input/Output ports are user-configurable, but they do have factory-defined default values, as follows:

    I/O Port

    Description

    eth0

    192.168.000.010 (Static IP address)

    eth1

    DHCP (Dynamic IP address)

    eth2

    DHCP (Dynamic IP address)

    eth3

    192.168.001.010 (Static IP address)

The IP address values  above are factory-set default values (two are static IP addresses, and the other two are for DHCP dynamic IP addresses). These default settings can be reconfigured by the user, from the front panel of the Server Appliance.

  4. Connect the monitor screen cable to the (blue) VGA monitor port in the middle of the back panel.
  5. If relevant for your application, connect any serial communication device to the 9-pin Serial port.
  6. If the optional ASI interface card is installed, you can connect any standard coaxial video cables to its four connectors, as required by your application.

After connecting all of the requires cables to their ports, and physically linking the Zixi Server Appliance to the internet (via the router) and the management TCP port to management console, the Zixi system will automatically begin the initialization sequence (which you will see running in the console command line interface).
