A Zixi source can be configured to PUSH a single input stream to multiple output targets in parallel. The topology includes a source node receiving a single IP input, while simultaneously pushing the stream to two live targets. Two differently named outputs are created at the source using the same Input Stream. If the latency of the outputs is identical, the streams will be frame synced, provided that the video is synced during its entry.
Source Configuration
The following procedure describes how to configure the Zixi Feeder to push a single stream to two target hosts in a hot redundancy configuration. In order to configure a hot redundancy you will need to create two outputs containing the same Stream ID with the same latency configuration. The procedure does cover instructions on how to configure the Input into the Zixi Feeder.
To configure the source node (e.g. Zixi Feeder):
- On the Outputs page of Zixi Feeder, click on the upper- right end corner of the screen.
- In the Output Name field, type a new name for the output.
- In the Input Stream field, select the relevant input stream.
- Select the Push option.
- In the Output Parameters section, under Links, enter the details of the primary target, including:
The target Host - Specify the destination Broadcaster name or IP address to which you are pushing the stream.
The Port number - Specify the ports to listen on for Push streams. Default - 2088
Target IP - - Set the desired Max Latency in milliseconds.
- Click OK to create the primary output,
- On the Outputs page of Zixi Feeder, select the newly created primary output.
- In the right hand drop down, select Duplicate.
A new output is created with identical parameters - In the Output Name field, type a new name for the secondary output.
- In the Output Parameters section, under Links, enter the details of the secondary target, including:
The target Host - Specify the destination Broadcaster name or IP address to which you are pushing the stream (secondary target).
The Port number - Specify the ports to listen on for Push streams. Default - 2088
Target IP - - Set the desired Max Latency in milliseconds
Click OK.
Target Configuration
To configure the primary target node (e.g. Zixi Broadcaster/Receiver):
- Click the Inputs tab at the top of the primary Zixi Broadcaster administrative screen
- Click New Input on the upper right hand side of the screen.
- Select the Push option.
- Create an input at the primary target, ensuring the “Stream ID” matches that of the primary source output.
- Configure additional parameters as required.
- Click OK.
To configure the secondary target node (e.g. Zixi Broadcaster/Receiver):
- Click the Inputs tab at the top of the secondary Zixi Broadcaster administrative screen
- Click New Input on the upper right hand side of the screen.
- Select the Push option.
- Create an input at the secondary target, ensuring the “Stream ID” matches that of the secondary source output.
- Configure additional parameters as required.
- Click OK.
Cost Considerations
This topology duplicates the target side Zixi node software and hardware components. This configuration also requires doubling the up-link bandwidth. It is recommended to allocate more than twice the expected maximum bit-rate to ensure head room.
