Zixi can be deployed to pull parallel redundant sources to two targets. This topology includes two simultaneous streams pulled in parallel from two separate source nodes to a corresponding pair of redundant targets. The streams are pulled in parallel by the two redundant targets, creating two redundant paths to the destination.  Two If a component in one of the paths fails, the alternative path can be used by the IRD.

Two distinctly named inputs are created at the source Zixi Broadcasters. Each Zixi Receiver will be configured to Pull the stream from each of the Zixi Broadcasters. If the latency of the Inputs is identical, the streams will be frame synced providing they video is synced at the source.

Source Configuration

Configuring in advance the Pull output in the primary and secondary Broadcasters is not mandatory

To configure the first source node (e.g. Primary Zixi Broadcaster):

  1. On the Inputs page of the primary Zixi Broadcaster, click New Input on the upper-right corner of the screen.
  2. In the Stream ID field, type a new name for the input stream.
  3. Select the a relevant connection type option.
  4. In the Max Inputs field, do one of the following:
    1. Leave it as Unlimited.
    2. Specify the maximal number of connections (e.g. type "1" to enable a single Pull connection).
  5. Specify the stream parameters according to the relevant connection type selected.
  6. Click OK to create the primary input.

To configure the second source node (e.g. Secondary Zixi Broadcaster):

Target Configuration

To configure the primary target node (e.g. Zixi Receiver):

  1. Click the Inputs tab at the top of the Zixi Receiver administrative screen
  2. Click New Input on the upper right hand side of the screen.
  3. Select the Pull option.
  4. In the Host field, enter the name of the primary source host Zixi Broadcaster.
  5. In the Port field, enter the port number as configured in the primary Zixi Broadcaster.
  6. In the Stream field, enter the stream ID as configured in the primary Zixi Broadcaster.
  7. Configure additional parameters as required.
  8. Click OK.

To configure the secondary target node (e.g. Zixi Receiver):

  1. Click the Inputs tab at the top of the Zixi Receiver administrative screen
  2. Click New Input on the upper right hand side of the screen.
  3. Select the Pull option.
  4. In the Host field, enter the name of the secondary source host Zixi Broadcaster.
  5. In the Port field, enter the port number as configured in the secondary Zixi Broadcaster.
  6. In the Stream field, enter the stream ID as configured in the secondary Zixi Broadcaster.
  7. Configure additional parameters as required.
  8. Click OK.

Cost Considerations

This topology duplicates the hardware and software components of both the source and the target. The configuration also requires using double the up-link bandwidth.  Allocation of twice the expected maximum bit-rate with head room is advised.

Latency Considerations

Retry cycle                              =

Connection to secondary        =
