Broadcaster clusters are groups of Zixi Broadcasters that perform one or more tasks. Available task types are:
- Ingest – An Ingest cluster is used to configure inputs and make them available as sources in ZEN Master.
- Channel Processing – A Channel Processing cluster is used to process sources and/or to send them to specified targets.
Each Broadcaster cluster can be configured to perform one or multiple tasks (i.e. Ingest and/or Channel Processing). This flexibility allows efficient management of resources and ensures performance and availability of resources. For example, if some of the streams require transcoding, while other streams don’t require transcoding, you can set up the clusters in a way that enables the streams that don’t require transcoding to be handled by non-processing clusters, thereby ensuring their performance is not hindered by the need to transcode other streams.
There are two scaling options available for the Broadcaster clusters:
- Manual – this option requires manual configuration of the Zixi Broadcaster instances. This means that after the Broadcaster cluster has been configured, there is a need to “Add Broadcaster” and configure each instance that is added to the cluster.
- Automatic – this option enables auto-scaling of Zixi Broadcaster instances based on the current load. In this option there is no need to manually configure Zixi Broadcaster instances. This option is only available once you have configured your Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure credentials. To configure your credentials, see Configuring AWS Account Credentials, Configuring Microsoft Azure Account Credentials, or Configuring Google GCP Account Credentials.
